Jigawa auto crash takes six lives, seven others injured

No fewer than six persons were confirmed dead on Thursday, while seven others got injured following an auto crash in Sabon Garin Takanebu in the Miga local government area of Jigawa State.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Jigawa State Command, DSP Lawan Adam, in a statement on Thursday said the accident which happened on Wednesday, involved a Mitsubishi Canter with number plate XA 519 KUR.

He added, “The incident happened when the driver, on reaching Sabon Gari market, lost control and ran into traders. About 10 persons sustained varying degrees of injury while three died on the spot.

“A team of policemen rushed to the scene and conveyed both the corpses and the injured to the Jahun General Hospital.

“However, three additional persons also died on the way to the hospital, and were confirmed dead by a medical doctor, bringing the total number of deaths to six. The remaining seven victims are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.”

He said the corpses have been released to the relatives of the deceased for proper burial.

According to him, investigation is in progress to ascertain the cause of the accident.

He said the Commissioner of Police, A.T. Abdullahi, had extended his condolences to the deceased families.

The CP pleaded with motorists to drive carefully.
