Jigawa LG poll: Police plot arrest, detention of political thugs till after election
The Jigawa State Police Command says it will pick up all notorious thugs and keep them “out of circulation” to ensure violence-free council election in the state.
The State Commissioner of Police A.T. Abdullahi, on Tuesday said the measure was necessary to check the excesses of political thugs during the election.
He said the command would identify black spots for political thugs before the election with a view to taking necessary measures to ensure peaceful conduct during the election.
“We have commenced moves to identify political thugs black spots. We shall go after them before the election. Some of the notorious ones will be arrested and held until after the election,” the commissioner said.
He said the command would soon convene a meeting with all the candidates and leaders of political parties where they would be made to sign a peace accord.
He said the command would continue to employ proactive measures to ensure the state remained peaceful as it’s one of the peaceful states in the country.
“We are not sleeping. We’re working round-the-clock to ensure that the state maintains its position as one of the peaceful states in the country,” he said.
