Hundreds of Kano residents thronged the streets on Sunday to welcome the Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II who returned to the city after defending his PhD program in London.

The monarch who arrived at the city through Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport around 3pm was received by the mammoth crowds who were waiting patiently for his arrival since morning.

The joyous youths and some elderly people escorted the Emir to the palace with many of them walking barefooted, shouting Allahu Akbar (God is great).

Recall that the Emir was conferred with a Doctorate after successfully completing his Viva Voce.

Viva Voce is a formal assessment where a candidate presents and defends their research thesis in front of a panel of experts, usually comprising examiners and academics in the relevant field.

Sanusi said his success “is for each and every citizen of Kano”, adding that he was dedicating it to them, families and other well-wishers.
