The Lagos State Police Command has ordered the immediate removal of policemen attached to the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit – aka task force – from al traffic and traffic related control and enforcement activities in the state.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said in a statement on Tuesday that the Commissioner of Police Fatai Tijani aims to improve traffic management and ensure that officers carry out their duties properly and are held accountable.

She said the withdrawal only affects traffic-related responsibilities, as the task force will continue to perform its other assigned duties.

The police emphasised that the task force is not the only enforcement unit in Lagos and urged residents to verify the identity of officials before lodging complaints, especially regarding traffic enforcement.

The directive is coming soon after public complaints, especially from motorists, about alleged misconduct and misuse of power by some task force policemen.

Although the former CP exonerated the task force, many Lagosians were not satisfied by the conclusion of the former number one policeman in the state, who is now the AIG Zone 2 Police Command.
