The Lagos State Government has said youths in the state will be given more opportunities to maximize their innate abilities and potential, especially in the  second term of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.
The  Commissioner in the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende, disclosed at 2024 Ministerial Press Briefing to commemorate the 1st Year of 2nd term of Sanwo-Olu on Thursday at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja.
Ogunlende stated that towards ensuring that youths are captured in terms of planning and allocation of resources, the Ministry has collaborated with Lagos State Resident Registration Agency (LASRRA) to build a reliable database for youths in Lagos State.
He added, “I can assure you that the needs of our youths will be accorded priority attention in this second term of Mr Governor. It is the reason that the youth is one of the developmental pillars in the THEMES PLUS AGENDA.This is why we have started the process of data capturing in collaboration with LASRRA in Alausa.
“We intend to replicate this exercise in all local government and local council development areas in the state. It is going to be an ongoing one just to make sure that youths in both the formal and informal sectors are captured in our database. We have signed Memoradum of Understanding (MoU) with some NGOs that will be coming to train our youths on technology related vocations.”
The Permanent Secretary, Mrs Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, said the ministry would initiate and implement policies and programmes that would positively impact on youths in Lagos State.
She added, “We have put in place series of programmes which involve collaborating with the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment as well as Ministry of Agriculture to constantly engage our youths with activities through which they can acquire skills
“We would also help those who have participated successfully in these programmes to get financial assistance to start their own business instead of looking for white collar jobs. This the reason why the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund was set up. This is one of the ways we intend to reduce cultism and drug abuse which most of the time is as a result of idleness of the youths”.
