Lagos ministry takes over care of abused child, tormentor arrested
The Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development has responded to a viral video showing a 12-year-old girl being abused by her alleged sister.
To address this serious issue, the Ministry has provided proper care and shelter for the girl after the police from the Oke-Odo Division apprehended the 32-year-old Funmi Faith.
In a statement, the Commissioner of the Ministry, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende, emphasized that the Ministry remained committed to protecting children from abuse and ensuring that their rights are upheld.
“He assured the public that the Ministry will collaborate with relevant agencies to eliminate all forms of abuse in Lagos State.
The statement added, “Mr. Ogunlende urged the public to assist the State Government by reporting any abuse cases to the Ministry through the helpline: 0906-735-3002 or by visiting the Ministry of Youth and Social Development at Block 18, Alausa Secretariat. Reports can also be made via the Ministry’s social media platforms (IG: @lasgmsd, fb: ministry of youth and social development, email: mysd@lagosstate.gov.ng). He guaranteed confidentiality for all whistleblowers”.
The Permanent Secretary, Mrs Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, appreciated the public’s partnership with the Ministry and appealed to residents to continue sending information regarding the abuse of children and other vulnerable persons.
She further reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to responding swiftly to reports of abuse and expressed her dismay over the incident, noting that numerous cases of child abuse have been addressed promptly to prevent further harm.
“It is unfortunate and very disheartening that in this day and age, a woman could treat a child in such a manner. We have swiftly responded to several child abuse cases to ensure no lives are lost,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
