The Lagos State Police Command has refuted reports alleging that it attempted to release a Lebanese national accused of defiling eight children, describing the claims as inaccurate.

In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebesi, the Command clarified that the suspect in question is not Lebanese but a national of one of the Southern African countries.

The statement further stressed that the case is being handled by the Gender Unit of the Command with “the highest level of professionalism, diligence, and in line with international best practices.”

However, the statement only made reference to one alleged victim, keeping mum on the seven other victims.

According to the police, both the biological mother of the alleged victim and the victim herself provided statements affirming that no act of molestation or defilement occurred.

The Command added that it is investigating a complaint by the victim’s father, who rarely has custody, to ensure a fair and thorough inquiry.

“The case is under discreet investigation, and every necessary step has been taken to ensure that justice is served,” Adebesi stated, adding that the outcome will be made public once the investigation is concluded.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered a comprehensive review of the allegations and directed that no stone be left unturned.

“He also reaffirmed his confidence in the Officer-in-Charge of the Gender Unit, Assistant Commissioner of Police Toyin Kazeem, noting her integrity and international recognition for professionalism in handling gender-based cases<” the statement said.

The Command urged the media and public to be patient and avoid spreading unverified claims, adding that the findings of the investigation will be made public upon completion.
