LASG officials give back to nature, plant trees at Ndubusi park

Top government officials, including the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu, and some heads of agencies, carried out a symbolic tree planting exercise on Wednesday September 24, 2025 at the Ndubusi Kanu Park, Alausa in continuation of the 2025 tree planting advocacy.

Adekunbi Bakare, the Director, Public Affairs, LASPARK, in a statement on Friday, said the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment who planted on behalf of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, and in his own capacity, underscored the need for collective action to restore nature.

“We have taken a lot from nature; it’s time to give back,” he added.

He explained that the exercise was in continuation of the annual tree planting campaign in line with the theme, “Trees for Lagos.”

Rotimi-Akodu stressed that the Sanwo-Olu administration remained committed to policies and projects that balance rapid urban development with environmental preservation.

He also called on residents, communities, and private sector partners to plant trees in their immediate surroundings.

The Special Adviser noted that environmental sustainability could not be achieved by government alone but requires active participation from all stakeholders in society.

The host of the event and General Manager of LASPARK, Mrs. Adetoun Popoola, expressed appreciation to all participants for their support in advancing the state’s greening initiative.

She highlighted the immense benefits of trees, ranging from improved air quality and climate regulation to enhanced urban aesthetics and overall well-being, reaffirming the State’s commitment to a greener, healthier environment.

Other heads of agencies that took part in the symbolic tree planting include the Managing Director of Lagos State Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin; General Manager, Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, LSWMO, Adefemi Afolabi; Managing Director of Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA), Prince Fatiu Akiolu; the General Manager of LASPARK, Mrs. Adetoun Popoola as well as a representative of the Lagos Water Corporation.

The event was rounded off with the presentation of certificates of participation to all attendees in recognition of their contributions to the state’s environmental sustainability drive.
