Lieutenant General: Tinubu double promotes acting COAS

President Bola Tinubu has officially promoted Olufemi Oluyede, the acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS), to the rank of Lieutenant General.
Oluyede, who was previously a Major General, stepped into the role of acting army chief following the illness of former army chief Taoreed Lagbaja.
During a decoration event on Tuesday, at the President’s Office, where Tinubu praised the Nigerian military for its dedication to national security and resilience in the face of challenges.
Tinubu expressed his appreciation for Oluyede’s service, stating, “It is both an honour and a privilege to decorate you today. This recognition reflects your commitment and service to the Nigerian military, which speaks volumes through your exemplary record.”
The President emphasized the government’s dedication to supporting the military, adding that “progress is being made” in addressing security issues, particularly terrorism and banditry.
He attributed recent security successes to the “synergy” within the armed forces and encouraged military leaders to sustain this unity for the nation’s stability.
Lt. Gen. Oluyede, who now holds the third-highest rank in the Army, expressed his gratitude for the recognition and reiterated his commitment to supporting the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, currently on medical leave.
