Manchester City on Sunday beat Arsenal 2-0 to win the first silverware of the English season.
City became champions of the League Cup, thanks to two second-half headers from Nico O’Reilly.
Premier League leaders Arsenal arrived as favourites to win their first trophy since 2020 but City deservedly won the competition for the ninth time.
After a tightly contested first half, O’Reilly broke the deadlock shortly after the restart, rising highest to nod home and give City the advantage.
The young midfielder doubled his tally later in the half with another well-taken header, sealing a deserved win for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Arsenal subsequently showed little invention as talk of a possible quadruple ended abruptly.
Despite their strong domestic form, the Gunners must now wait longer for their first major trophy since 2020.
