Meranda is Lagos Speaker, lawmakers describe report of Obasa’s return as fake
Some members of the Lagos State House of Assembly has described the report that President Bola Tinubu has directed the reinstatement of the estranged former speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, as a fake news
Recall that Obasa was removed three weeks ago by about 37 members of the Lagos State House of Assembly who pointed out pitfalls in his leadership style bothering on misconduct, misappropriation of funds, breach of public trust and the misuse of power.
The news by some online mediums on Sunday suggested that the president ordered the return of the ex-speaker.
But the lawmakers, who declined to be named because they were not gives the task to speak officially, said there had been so many desperate attempts by the rejected speaker to return to power.
One if he said, “The House of Assembly has been in the news since January 13 when Mudashiru Obasa was removed as Speaker and replaced with the present speaker RT. Hon. Princess Mojisola Lasbat Meranda.
“The latest report is that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria – H.E Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, has ordered that the embattled former speaker be reinstated.
“This is nothing but fake news based on the fact that she has met with The President, Mr Governor, The GAC and Past members from the 1st Assembly to the 9th Assembly, amongst many others.
“There have also been numerous courtesy calls and endorsements on the election Princess Mojisola Lasbat Meranda as the first female speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly since the week of her election, further giving credence and authenticity to the legitimacy of her election.
“The circulation of the fake news has piqued the interest of many political observers, enthusiasts and citizens as they keep asking in one voice – “Is Obasa so important that he is being protected from above or are these just media stunts of a sore loser?”
The assembly members urged Lagosians to ignore the shenanigans of the former speaker.
They added that the fake news is “tactics aimed at distracting the new Lagos State Speaker, adding that Meranda remained the authentic Speaker of the Lagos Assembly.
