Million- materials lost as fire guts Kano varsity

A fire gutted the North-West University Kano city campus on Thursday, destroying million-naira property.
Reports said no life was lost, but a staff member of the institution sustained injuries and currently receiving medical attention.
The fire was said to have started around 11.20am and affected the offices of the Head of Department and lecturers in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) department,l.
The incident was said to have been caused by an electrical surge.
A security guard, trained in firefighting, was rushed to the university clinic after suffering from smoke inhalation while attempting to contain the flames.
Firefighters from both the Kano State Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service responded promptly, preventing the fire from spreading.
The Director of Kano State Fire Service, Sani Anas, said that the situation was brought under control before it could escalate to other sections of the building.
Also, the University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, said while the fire had been put out, the full extent of the damage was yet to be determined.
“We cannot quantify the losses at this time, but we are thankful to God that no lives were lost,” he said.
