A speeding driver on Monday crushed a pedestrian to death at the Lotto bus stop end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

It was gathered that the pedestrian was walking by the roadside before the speeding vehicle lost control and rammed into the yet-to-be-identified female
pedestrian and her two children.

An eyewitness who simply identified as Chanka told The PUNCH that the woman, who was a regular beggar in the area, died from the impact of the collision.

He said, “We were seated here when we had the sound of a brake screech from a vehicle. The loud sound threw people into a panic mood as people scamped for safety.

“It was after some moment that we realised that the vehicle had collided with a woman and her children, killing the woman on the spot and injuring the children.

“The woman is a regular beggar in this area. Her children have been taken to hospital.”

Another eye witness, Sandra Udoisang, noted that the scene of the crash and the impact of the crash were gory people were scared to move to the scene.

She, however, stressed that she could not describe the real cause of the accident.

Confirming the accident on the telephone, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, blamed the crash on speeding.

She said, “The incident happened due to speeding because if it wasn’t speeding, there is no way he wouldn’t be able to control the vehicle.

“The officers conducted a rescue mission and further investigation will be conducted.”
