Muslims told to look for Ramadan moon

The Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs of the Sultanese Council, Sokoto has asked Nigerian Muslims to look out for the new moon of Ramadan on Tuesday February 17, 2o26.

A statement on Monday by Prof, Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Chairman of the Advisory council, the exercise is important, adding that anywhere moon is sighted must be communicated to the Sultan of Sokoto.

The statement reads, “This is to inform the Muslim Umah that Tuesday February 17, 2026 is equivalent to 29th day of Shaaban 1447AH.

“Muslims are therefore requested to start looking for the new moon of Ramadan 1777AH on Tuesday and report its sighting to the nearest District or Village Head for onward communication to His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar CFR, mni, the Sultan of Sokoto.

“May Allah(SWT) help us in the discharge of this religious duty, amen.”
