NANS calls for meeting with Tinubu over increase in prices of petrol
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS has called on President Bola Tinubu, to allow a meeting between him and the union representatives.
The Secretary of NANS, David Bariereka, told journalists during an interview in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, that the body wanted to meet the President over its demand for the reversal of the recent increase in price of petrol.
According to him, the student body is currently in discussion with key stakeholders in the petroleum industry, including businessman Aliko Dangote, oil marketers, and the Minister of State for Petroleum (Oil), to seek a solution that would alleviate the public’s burden.
The development is coming as the student body continues its plan for the planned nationwide protest against the increase in petrol price.
The group had fixed September 15, 2024, for the nationwide protest.
The Senate President of the NANS, Henry Okuomo, had earlier said the union was capable of holding the government accountable as it was not happy with the current hardship situation in the country.
