NARD gives notice of fresh strike starting November 1

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, has declared an indefinite nationwide strike, set to begin on November 1, 2025.

The doctors are angry at the alleged Federal Government’s continued failure to address their long-standing demands.

In a statement signed by the association’s President, Dr Mohammad Suleiman, on Sunday, NARD said the decision followed the expiration of a 30-day ultimatum earlier issued to the government.

According to the statement, the decision was reached after a five-hour National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Saturday, where members reviewed the government’s response and found it unsatisfactory.

“The NEC has marshalled out minimum demands, strike monitoring directives, and ‘no work, no pay/no pay, no work’ resolutions needed for a successful execution of this action.

“Today, after a five-hour Extra-Ordinary National Executive Council meeting, the members of NEC have issued new marching orders to us once again.

“The NEC has unanimously directed us to declare a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike action to commence on Friday, October 31, 2025, at 11.59pm,”the statement read.

NARD did not immediately disclose the full list of unmet demands, but previous disputes with the Federal Government have revolved around unpaid salary arrears, improved welfare packages, hazard allowances, and medical residency training funds.

The association maintained that it had exhausted all dialogue channels, blaming the government’s inaction and insensitivity for the latest escalation.
