The Nigerian Bar Association says all is set to hold the body’s annual Section of Legal Practice Conference in ancient city of Kano,

The NBA President Yakubu Maikyau (SAN) announced this on Monday during the 2024 NBA Kano branch Law Week at Afficient Event Centre, Kano.

He said this is the first time the SLP conference will be held in Kano from 2nd June, 2024 to 5th June, 2024.

Maikyau said, “This will be the first ever NBA annual conference in the northern part of the country. And the venue is Kano. So, it is going to be historic.”

In his keynote address, a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, A.B. Mahmud SAN lamented the lack of coherence in the use of technology in the administration of justice in the country.

The legal luminary stressed the need to adopt the positive aspects of technology in justice delivery especially in the areas of   E-filing, digital case management and virtual courts on mobile applications.

He said, “The challenge in Nigeria in my view is that we are still lacking in coherent policy guidance on the application of technology in our courts.

“And also, there is a lack of provision of sufficient resources. Much of the investment is procurement driven, not based on needs assessment or well-informed decisions on appropriate or suitable technologies.

“The technologies are often not harmonized amongst the various courts to facilitate exchange of information or data.

“Vendors in many cases dump devices on the courts, some of which are hardly used but simply decorate the offices.” he said.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who was represented by his deputy, Aminu  Abdulsalam Gwarzo, declared open the NBA Kano branch’s 2024 Law Week.
