Nicki Minaj arrested at Amsterdam airport for ‘carrying drugs’
US rapper, Nicki Minaj, has been detained at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands.
The 41-year-old singer was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of possession of soft drugs.
The rapper was on her way to perform at a concert in the United Kingdom when she was apprehended.
In a series of social media posts, Minaj claimed police said they found drugs in her luggage after items were checked by customs.
“They’ve been trying to stop me from coming to every show. They took my bags before I could see them,” she wrote on Instagram.
“Put it on the plane. Now saying they’re waiting on customs. This is what it looks like when ppl are paid big money to try to sabotage a tour after all else failed. Everything they’ve done is illegal.”
The music star also filmed what appeared to be an airport official asking her to have her luggage checked.
Minaj later wrote via X: “It’s a 45 minute to an hour flight. So they’re probably trying to stall for about 4 hours”.
In the footage, a police officer is heard telling Minaj: “You are under arrest”.
The officer said he wants to take the rapper into custody for “carrying drugs”.
This was despite her claim that she was not holding any contraband.
In another post, Minaj wrote: “This is Amsterdam btw, where weed is legal”.
Confirming the development, Robert van Kapel, a spokesperson for the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, told NBC News: “We can confirm that we have arrested a 41-year-old American woman at Schiphol airport because of possession of soft drugs”.
