The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face Algeria in the quarter-final of the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The fixture was confirmed on Monday night following Algeria’s dramatic extra-time 1-0 victory over the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) in the second round.

Adil Boulbina scored a pile driver late in the extra time to clinch the victory for Desert Foxes in a match that had looked destined for a penalty shootout.

Nigeria thrashed Mozambique 4-0 in their second round tie on Monday. The quarter-final match will be a clash between the Eagles, the best attack in the competition with 12 goals, and Algeria, the best defence with just one goal conceded in four games.

The last time Nigeria played Algeria at the AFCON was in 2019. A Riyad Mahrez late freekick sent the Foxes into the final, and they eventually won the competition.

The two teams will face off on January 10 at Marrakesh Stadium in Marrakesh at 5 pm Nigerian time.

The winner of the match will face either Morocco or Cameroon in the semi-final.

Other fixtures for the AFCON second round include Mali vs Senegal, while Egypt will face either Cote d’Ivoire or Burkina Faso.
