NiMet predicts 3-day thundery, rainy, weather conditions

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms and rain across the country from Sunday through Tuesday.

According to NiMet’s weather outlook issued on Saturday in Abuja, thunderstorms are expected on Sunday, with rain affecting parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Borno, Kebbi, Kaduna, Gombe, and Yobe States in the morning.

Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated throughout the northern region, while rain is forecasted for the North Central region in the morning hours.

In the afternoon, moderate thunderstorms with rain are expected over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Benue, and Kogi States. Intermittent rain is also anticipated in the morning across Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Delta States.

During the afternoon and evening, intermittent rain is expected over Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Edo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, and Bayelsa States.

On Monday, morning thunderstorms with rain are predicted for Kebbi, Sokoto, Bauchi, Kaduna, Borno, Taraba, and Katsina States. Later, moderate thunderstorms with rain are expected in Jigawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Sokoto, Borno, Zamfara, Yobe, Adamawa, and Katsina States.

Rain is anticipated over the Federal Capital Territory and Plateau States in the morning, with moderate thunderstorms and rain later in the day in the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, and Kogi States. Intermittent rain is expected over Edo, Rivers, and Delta States, while other southern regions will experience cloudy conditions.

For Tuesday, morning thunderstorms with rain are forecasted for Yobe, Adamawa, Borno, and Taraba States, with thunderstorms across the northern region later in the day. Rain is expected in the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, and Kwara States in the morning, with cloudy skies in the remaining regions. In the afternoon or evening, intermittent rain is expected in the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, and Niger States. Morning rain is predicted for Edo, Delta, Imo, and Anambra States, with cloudy conditions elsewhere in the south. Later in the day, intermittent rain is expected in Ondo, Edo, Osun, Ekiti, Oyo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Bayelsa States.

NiMet advises the public to take precautions as strong winds may precede the rain in areas with thunderstorms. Residents should avoid flood-prone areas due to the high risk of urban flooding in major cities. The public and airline operators are encouraged to stay informed through NiMet’s weather updates for effective planning.
