The organised labour has declared a nationwide indefinite strike over the Federal Government’s refusal to raise the proposed minimum wage from N60,000.

The Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress made the declaration at a news conference on Friday.

The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, said the strike would begin by midnight on Sunday, June 2, 2024, while its implementation would ne on Monday June 3.

Ajaero, and President of the Trade Union Congress, Festus Osito, said the strike action was unavoidable.

Earlier on Friday, talks on minimum wage between the Federal Government and organised labour deadlocked when both parties failed to shift grounds on what the minimum wage should be,

While the FG insisted on N60,000 it proposed during the last meeting, the labour wanted over N497,000.

The NLC and the Trade Union Congress had given a May 31, 2024 ultimatum on the new minimum wage.

At the briefing, leaders of NLC and TUC pleaded with Nigerians to bear with them.
