The Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress have resolved to begin strike in Imo State by midnight of today in the state,

A statement by the General Secretary of the NLC, Emmanuel Ugboaja, said the two union had resolved that workers should withdraw their services by midnight, urging them to comply.

NLC had accused the state government of many labour-related issues in the state, including the non-payment of national minimum wage.

During the celebration of Workers Day the organised labour accused the government of sponsoring another faction of workers’ union which commended the governor for prompt payment of salaries and pensions.

But the statement on Tuesday said, “This is to remind all affiliates of the resolution of the joint emergency CWC meeting of the NLC and TUC where the unfortunate May Day development in Imo State was discussed.

“Consequently, all affiliates are kindly requested to issue the necessary directive to their state council in Imo State to embark on a comprehensive withdrawal of their services in the state by midnight today in compliance with the Joint CWC decision.

“Do remain assured of the vigilance and determination of the leadership of the congress to creatively engage all forms of anti-worker practices all over the nation. Your participation is therefore key to achieving our collective objectives.”
