NSCDC arrests two in Kano for motorcycle theft, illegal drug peddling

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kano State Command, have arrested a suspected motorcycle thief and a suspected illegal drug dealer in the Kumbotso Local Government Area.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi confirmed the arrest of the suspects in a statement on Tuesday.
The statement reads partly, “Operatives of the NSCDC Kano State command, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended two suspects, a suspected motorcycle thief at Sabuwar Jiddah, Yan kusa, and a suspected illegal drug dealer at Sabon Titin Dorayi all in Kumbotso local government of Kano State.”
The spokesman explained that the suspected motorcycle thief, identified as Usman Abdulhamid, 19, resident of Yandanko, Panshekara, was arrested shortly after stealing a motorcycle in the Sabuwar Jiddah area from an unsuspecting member of the public.
He said upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to being part of a syndicate that specializes in stealing and snatching motorcycles across Kano metropolis.
He added that during the operation, personnel of the corps recovered four motorcycles from the suspect – three Jincheng and one Lifan Kumata – adding that efforts are on to arrest other two accomplices who are at large.
He said the drug dealer, 28-year-old, Salisu Abdullahi of Semegu, in Kumbotso LGA, was arrested at Sabon Titin Dorayi in possession of various psychotropic substances suspected to be sold for illicit consumption.
He said exhibits recovered from him include 100 pieces of Paxol 5mg tablets, 30 pieces of Pregabalin 300mg, 170 pieces of Diazepam 10mg and one tablet of Male sex enhancer.
“These arrests are part of the corps broader strategy to dismantle criminal networks involved in theft, vandalism and other crimes that threaten public safety,” the statement said.
