Obaseki dissolves Edo council, sacks SAs, SSAs
Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has dissolved the State Executive Council with immediate effect.
According to a statement from his Special Adviser on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, the governor expressed appreciation to members of the Council for their service to the government and people of the state.
“The governor said the dissolution of the Council takes immediate effect.
“The State’s cabinet was dissolved during the Weekly Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.
“The Governor also said beginning from today, all Special Assistants and Senior Special Assistants have been relieved of their appointments,” the statement added.
The reason for the dissolution was not revealed in the statement.
Recall, however, that last year, Obaseki approved a restructuring that reduced the number of government ministries, departments, and agencies by over 31 percent.
The government had said the measure was to cut wastage in government and eliminate duplication of functions.
The state government had cut the number of ministries from 22 to 18.
Also, MDAs were reduced from 105 to 72.
