Ogun, Lagos declare Tuesday public holiday to celebrate traditional Isese Day
The Ogun and Lagos State Government has declared Tuesday, August 20, a public holiday to celebrate 2024 Isese Day.
Statements signed by the Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, as well as Bode Agoro, Head of Service, Lagos State, confirmed the development on Monday
According to the statement from Ogun State, the work-free day will allow traditional worshippers across the state to commemorate their special day.
It urged traditional worshippers in the state to celebrate in moderation and respect the rights of others’ religions during the celebrations to sustain the state’s inherent culture of religious tolerance.
The statement also encouraged the adherents to use the special festive period to pray for peace and economic advancement in Ogun State and Nigeria at large.
The Lagos State Government also said the decision for the Tuesday holiday to celebrate this year’s Isese Day, was in line with the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration’s commitment to religious inclusivity.
“In emphasising commitment to give necessary support to traditional institutions, as well as enhance the promotion of indigenous tradition by preserving cultural heritage, Mr. Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved that Tuesday, 20th August, 2024, be declared a Work Free Day for Public Servants in the state,” the statement by Bode Agoro said.
