Ogun task force demolishes structures along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
The Ogun State Government, on Tuesday started the demolition of shanties and makeshift structures in the Kara end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The government said the shanties and illegal structures disfigured the corridor, as well as being hideouts for criminals in the area.
The Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on Environment, Farouq Akintunde, was said to have led the task force to the area.
Akintunde said the exercise was meant to position the state as the industrial hub of Nigeria.
He added, “Ogun State has a role to play in the economic advancement of the nation. No serious investor will come here and partner us with all these kinds of shanties and garbages.”
Some residents were seeing protesting against the action of the government.
However, the heavy presence of security agents such as policemen and operatives of the Ogun State Community Social Orientation and Safety Corps deterred the protester from escalating their grievances.
