OOU SSANU, NASU members protest governments’ nonchalant attitude to welfare

Members of the senior staff association of Nigerian universities, SSANU, and the Non-Academic staff union, NASU, on Thursday staged a protest at the Olabisi Onabanjo University main campus.
The protest is part of the nationwide action decided upon by the Joint Action Committee, JAC, of the two unions.
The protest is coming at the expiration of a two-week ultimatum the two unions gave to the Federal Government to address their demands, which are mainly welfare matters.
The members of both unions accused the Federal Government of being nonchalant to their welfare demands.
The protest started around 8am at the University main gate, where a prayer session was held by different denominations.
The Chairman of JAC at OOU, Comrade Dr. Abiodun Adedeji Lamina addressed the congress and reminded them of what necessitated the peaceful protest.
The protesting university workers are demanding, among other things, the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement with the federal government, immediate payment of 25 and 35 per cent salary increment, and the immediate payment of all withheld salaries
In shedding more light, the Chairman of NASU-OOU, Comrade Odufuwa implored the Congress to be steadfast as victory is certained.
The protest then proceeded from the main gate down to the end of the main road before the members departed to their different offices around 11am.
