The Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, says he is satisfied with the activities of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ekiti State Command.

He added that his administration would continue to collaborate with the agency to ensure effective traffic management and reduction in road accidents.

Oyebanji spoke during the visit of the new Sector Commander, Ekiti Sector Command, Corps Commander Sanya Adeoye, to the Governor’s Office, Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday.

The governor said the FRSC must continue to improve on its current pace of traffic management by organizing regular interface with commercial transporters among efforts to further reduce road accidents.

He said Ekiti would continue to support activities of the FRSC in the state, assuring the agency that requests presented to him would be given serious consideration with view to achieve better results.

He said, “Let me commend your level of professionalism. I have listened to your challenges and with respect to vehicles and ambulance service. We are partners in progress, whatever support we can give to your agency, we will do that. You are very serious-minded agency and you know what you are doing; we will continue to support you”.

The governor said it is imperative to ensure adequate regular training on road usage and safety measures, urging  FRSC to perform a documentation of all motorcyclists operators in the state in order to reduce crime.

“I am happy the accident rate in the state is going down and traffic has been free in town, I also like the idea of advising us on signage. One area that we will still need you to step up is regular interface with drivers, commercial motorcyclists, tricycle operators. We need to have a structure that will ensure that we meet with them regularly to train them on safety measures. You see, most of the accidents we have in the state are avoidable especially the motorcycle operators,” the governor said.

Earlier, the Sector Commanded said the numbers of commands in the state had grown from three to 13, cutting across the three senatorial districts.

He added that the Sector is in need of vehicles to cover the additional commands as well as ambulances to cater to emergencies.
