PDP will win all elections in Abia State, Ikpeazu assures PDP NWC

The Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu on Monday said the Peoples Democratic Party in the state and across the country remained strong, viable and united even as the party mourned the death of its governorship candidate, Professor Uche Ikonne.

Ikpeazu spoke while receiving a delegation of the National Working Committee of the party which was on a condolence and solidarity visit to the state at the Government House, Umuahia.

The governor stated that the death of Ikonne was a huge setback for the members of the party, but noted that PDP is blessed with sufficient resilience and strength to deal with the setback and bounce back to win the 2023 elections.

The governor said, “We thanked the National Leadership of the party for their show of support and solidarity with the Abia State chapter at this trying moment. The Abia PDP shall rise from the ashes of the current despair to record a massive victory at the elections; the PDP remains the party of choice in this state.”

He equally informed the delegation that the state caucus of the party had agreed to zone the governorship candidateship to Isiala Ngwa North council, the home council area of the late Ikonne.

He assured the delegation that the “PDP will win all elections” in Abia State.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Deputy National Chairman, North, of the PDP, Ambassador Umar Damagum, described the late Ikonne as an accomplished intellectual and experienced administrator whose emergence as Governor of Abia State would have led to the fast tracking of development in the state.

He added, the National Chairman of our party, Dr Iyorchia Ayu and the Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, are deeply pained by the death of Professor Ikonne who shared several developmental ideas with them.”

He assured the governor that the National Working Committee of the party would work closely with the Abia State chapter to hold peaceful and credible primary election on Saturday.

He then presented an official letter of condolence from the party’s National Headquarters to the dovernor.

Other members of the delegation included the National Secretary of the party, Senator Sam Anyanwu and the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, SAN.

The Deputy Governor, Ude Chukwu; Secretary to the State Government, Chris Ezem; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Okey Ahiwe; PDP Board of Trustees member and former Deputy Governor, Eric Nwakanma and members of the State Working Committee of the Party led by the State Chairman, Asiforo Okere, among others, were part of the event.
