A former Governor of Borno State, Alimodu Shetiff, is of the opinion that Peter Obi won the 2023 Presidential election in Lagos state because there are more Igbos residing in the South-West state than any other tribe.

Sheriff who appears on Channels T’s Politics Today on Monday, put forward this argument while dismissing the possibility of the ADC clinching power from the ruling party, APC.

According to him, the ADC has no state they control and so cannot win a presidential election.

The anchor-man Seun Okinbaloye, however, pointed out that Peter Obi and the Labour party had no state they were controlling but still the got highest votes in Lagos during the 2023 presidential election.

But Sheriff said, ‘’The problem of Peter Obi is that he ran on the platform of his party and his tribe, the Igbos. They voted for him. They will always do that.”

Responding to a follow-up remark that Obi won Lagos State which is not a South-East state, he responded saying, ‘’There are more Igbos in Lagos than other tribes. I lived in Lagos all part of my life since I left England in 1980. Lagos is occupied by the Igbos.”

When asked if there are no Yorubas that voted for Obi during the election, he said

‘’If they are, they are very small.”
