Police arrest 20-year-old son for allegedly hacking father to death

A 20-year-old man, Muhammad Salisu, has allegedly killed his biological father, Salisu Abubakar, with a machete.
The incident, according to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Jigawa State Command, SP Shi’isu Adam, occurred in the Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
Adam said the incident occurred on Monday, May 5, 2025, around 10 am in Bakin Kasuwa Quarters, Sara District.
Adam explaned that the suspect attacked his father with a machete, inflicting serious injuries on his shoulder, neck, and chest.
“The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Birnin Kudu, for medical attention, but he was confirmed dead by the medical doctor on call.
“The corpse was later released to the relatives for burial,” Adam said.
The PPRO added that the suspect, Muhammad Salisu, was arrested, and the exhibit (machete) was recovered.
“The Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Dutse for discreet investigation,” he added.
He clarified that the motive behind the gruesome murder had yet to be ascertained.
“The suspect is currently in police custody, and the police are working to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident,” SP Adam said.
