Police confirm 11 dead in Kebbi auto crash
The Kebbi State Police Command has said no fewer than 11 persons died in an accident along Maiyama/Koko road.
SP Nafiu Abubakar, the Police Public Relations Officer, Kebbi State Police Command, said in a statement that the incident involved a DAF Trailer marked, NO. SKK837X driven by a yet to be identified driver.
The statement added, “On 27/11/2023 at about 0600 hours, there was a fatal motor vehicle accident along Maiyama/Koko road, involving a DAF Trailer with REG. NO. SKK837X, driven by a yet to be identified driver, conveying passengers, bags of onions, bags of beans and six motorcycles and travelling from Goronyo LGA of Sokoto State to Niger State.
“On reaching a point near Dada village, Koko/Besse LGA, the driver lost control of the vehicle as the truck head suddenly severed from the body.
“Consequently the truck head swerved into the bush. As a result, Sixty Five (65) passengers, all males from Sokoto State, including the driver sustained varying degrees of serious injury.
“On receipt of the accident report, a team of traffic policemen from Koko Division rushed to the scene and removed the victims to General Hospital koko, where a medical Doctor confirmed Eleven dead, while the remaining victims are currently responding to treatment.
“In light of the above, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Chris Aimionowane, prayed the gentle souls of the deceased persons to continue to rest in Jannatul Fiddaus and wished the injured persons a speedy recovery.
- “The CP further warned all drivers plying the highways to avoid overloading and over-speeding while behind the wheels to prevent future reoccurrence.”
