Residents seek way out of perennial gridlock, advise agencies
Some Lagosians have called on the Lagos Traffic Management Authority, the Federal Road Safety Corps and other relevant agencies to collaborate and reduce the gridlock on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway since the construction giant, Julius Berger, had temporarily suspended work on the road.
They also called on LASTMA to deploy officials around filling stations selling fuel to curb traffic bottlenecks in the metropolis.
Recall that the work on the expressway was recently suspended to allow for hitch free traffic during the Yuletide, but motorists have continued to groan due to traffic logjam on the ever-busy road.
Some motorists, who spoke with our correspondents across the city said LASTMA officials and other agencies should ease flow of traffic on the expressway, as well as filling stations in the city to avoid stress.
One of them, Wunmi Bankole, who spoke in Ikeja said although LASTMA and other agencies are doing their best, they should push beyond best as festive season approached so that there would be ease of movement within the state and around its borders.
A civil servant, Waheed Oladimeji, who spoke in the Surulere area, said, “The agencies should apply sanction to the letter against traffic violators to save us from unending traffic logjam.”
Another person, Ronke Olakunle, of the Epe area said, “There must be collaboration among traffic law enforcement officials is the only way to return sanity to the road.”
Also, Tinuke Badejo, living in the Alimosho area, added that residents must be prepared to liaise with government in ensuring that ongoing road projects did not bring hardship to the people.
