Second Niger Bridge vandalised, FG assures motorists of structural safety
About two months after its inauguration, the Second Niger Bridge has been vandalised with the metal plate covering the expansion joint of the walkway at the Onitsha end removed.
Speaking on the vandalism, an official of the Federal Ministry of Works, Martins Oluwaseyi, condemned the act and wondered why people would tamper with a public infrastructure such as this bridge.
The official, however, assured motorists plying the route that the bridge is still very much safe, saying the structural integrity was not affected in any way by the incident.
He also disclosed that measures have been taken to avoid a recurrence, adding that investigations are already into the incident.
