The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board has asked for the arrest of six persons for law for their alleged role in registering 36 candidates with their fingerprints in Kano State.

The six suspects, including a final year student of law, were discovered to have committed the illegal act at three Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres in the city.

The Registrar of the Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, reported the fraudsters on Wednesday evening shortly after monitoring some CBT centres in the ongoing 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination registration in Kano.

He said the suspects, who are workers of the affected CBT centres would be taken to Abuja where they would be handed over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences for prosecution.

The JAMB Boss said the CBT approved centres from which the criminal elements were discovered are Federal College of Education Kano Centre, Rubby Centre and Butale Info Tech Centre.

“These people have been substituting candidates’ fingerprints. We have seen three places where we showed them evidence of their sharp practices and almost all of them (suspects) confessed what they did.

“Instead of registering the fingerprints of the candidates, they put their own fingerprints so that they will have access to the examination,” he said.

According to him, some suspects connived with candidates to perpetrate illegal act, adding that the board would ensure that all those found guilty of the offence were prosecuted in order to serve as a deterrent to others.

Meanwhile, at the Kano JAMB Zonal office where out only 40 of the 64 staff members reported to work at the time of his visit, Oloyede threatened to transfer all affected staff out of the state if the trend continued.
