Students get free uniform, stipends as Igbaraodo-Ekiti Technical College matriculates 150

The Government Technical College, Igbaraodo-Ekiti has matriculated 150 new students.

The February 18 colourful event, which was chaired by Honourable Kayode Babade, Chairman Board for Technical and Vocational Education in Ekiti State, also had in attendance other board members, and the Executive Secretary, Dr Ben Àjàyí.

The monarch of the town, Arajaka of Igbaraodo-Ekiti, Oba Edward Jayeola, was also in attendance with members of his ruling council.

Babade expressed his satisfaction towards the commitment of the government to the development of technical colleges in the state. He also appreciated the efforts of the Igbaraodo community and the LCDA authorities in ensuring the that the technical college in the community runs smoothly.

He appreciated one of their sons, Barrister Tope Adebayo, for his generous donation of uniforms and monetary gifts to the new students.

According to him, drumming support for Technical and Vocational Education is a fitting gesture. He hinted of the Board’s intention to begin distribution of newly-procured tools and equipment to the six colleges within the next three weeks.

Ben Àjàyí, on his part, enjoined the new students to make the most of the opportunity available to them to earn sellable skills in the college. He also charged them to shun social vices of all kinds.

In her matriculation address, the Principal of the college, Mrs Yemisi Abidakun, highlighted the importance of Technical and Vocational Education especially in a skill-driven 21st century.

She appealed that government should provide hostel accommodation to students of the college, and also connect the college to the national grid.

She expressed gratitude for the kind gesture of Barrister Tope Adebayo, who provided all the newly admitted students with uniforms and pocket money. She also thanked Mr Oluwafemi Tinubu for providing all year one students of Electronics Systems Maintenance with personal toolkits.

Also, the Special Assistant to the Governor  of Ekiti State on Technical and  Vocational Education Honourable Ayodeji Odetola stressed the need for Technical Education, saying  the world is going Technical.

He pointed out that Technical and Vocational skills should be encouraged to enhance a better future of our dear nation.

“What we need now is a Technical and Vocational Education to guarantee the future of our nation,” Odetola added.

He advised the students to be loyal to their studies, honest and flee from cultism.
