Suspected robber caught red-handed after prompt alert by resident to police

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man for alleged armed robbery and culpable homicide.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna confirmed the arrest of the suspect in a statement on Tuesday.
He said the suspect was apprehended on Monday May 5, 2025 at Danbare Quarters in Kano metropolis.
The statement read, “On 5th of May 2025, at about 06.40am, the Kano State Police Command received information from a resident of Danbare Quarters, Kano, that two suspected armed robbers were in the residence of one Shehu Muhammad, a 30-year-old male and were attacking him with a long sharp cutlass, inflicting multiple injuries on his body.
“Upon receiving the report, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, dispatched operational teams with detectives to the scene.
“The victim was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for medical attention, where he was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
Haruna said one of the suspects, Aliyu Umar, a 20-year-old male, was arrested at the scene and the weapon used in the commission of the offense recovered from him, pointing out that the suspect is currently helping police investigation.
He said as soon as the investigation was concluded, the suspect will be charged to court for appropriate prosecution.
While assuring the public of the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order and bringing perpetrators to justice, he urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station for prompt action.
“The Command commends the community members for promptly reporting the incident, assisting in the arrest of the suspect and in supporting the police in its efforts to maintain peace and security in the state,” the statement added.
