Takum in Taraba gets leader after 28 years, governors, TY Danjuma, others pay homage

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo, Caleb Muftwang of Plateau, former governor Jonah Jang of Plateau, Jolly Nyame of Taraba and a former Minister of Defence, Rtd. Gen. TY Danjuma on Saturday paid homage to the new Chief of Takum, HRH Sopiya Ahmadu-Gboshi III.

Takum stool had been vacant for 28 years before Ahmadu-Gboshi III ascended the throne in 2024;

At a grand reception in honour of the new chief of Takum, the state governor Agbu Kefas recalled the challenges on the way to installation of the new chief, including the court case.

He urged the new chief to carry everyone along for the peace and progress of the area.

“Today, we bring peace and unity to Takum. The installation of the new chief of Takum symbolises reconciliation, fairness and unity and I call on the people of Takum to give peace a chance.

“This is not a moment of victory, but a moment for shared prosperity and great future for Takum. To the new chief your role as the chief of Takum comes with a task and you must rule with integrity and respect for all.

“Soon we will announce a date for the launch of an endowment fund to rebuild Takum and communities affected by crisis. As a governor, I pledge to ensure that all displaced people return to their homes and are assisted to return to normal lives for a brighter and inclusive future.”

Obaseki, who was the Special Guest of honour at the occasion, called on the people of Taraba to embrace peace so as to harness the God’s given resources endowed in the state.

Obaseki who said the installation of the new chief marked the beginning of a new dawn and prosperity in Takum and Taraba added, “With the swearing in of the new chief of Takum, prosperity and peace will be restored and the people will be happy

On his part, Jang congratulated the new chief and thanked General TY Danjuma for the leadership role he is playing in the middle belt.

Jang called on the governors in the country to demand for state police to enable them provide adequate security for their people.

In his goodwill message, former Governor of Taraba State, Rev. Jolly Nyame called on the new chief to provide leadership and end the crisis in the area to enable the displaced people return to their homes.

He called on Governor Kefas to listen to the cries and yearnings of other tribes who are looking for traditional leadership for inclusivity and balance.

Gen. Danjuma who was visibly elated and took time to dance and salute Kefas for “breaking the jinx of the chieftancy in Takum after 28 years.”
