Tanker rams into truck in Anambra, two killed, two injured

Two women lost their lives in the early hours of Tuesday, while two others sustained injuries in a motor accident in he Obenetiti Awkuzu end of the Onitsha-Awka Expressway in Anambra State.

The accident, which reportedly occurred around 5.20am, involved a commercial Mack tanker and a commercial Toyota Diana truck.

The accident was said to have happened when the Mack tanker collided with the Diana truck due to brake failure.

The state Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, confirmed that brake failure caused the crash.

He said, “Two unidentified drivers of a commercial Mack tanker with number plate AAA877XR, and a driver of a commercial Toyota Diana marked, AGL627XC were involved in a fatal road  crash at Obenetiti Awkuzu by Onitsha-Nteje-Awka Expressway today 11th June 2024 at 05:20hrs.

“Three male adults and four female adults were involved in the crash. Two female adults were killed, two female adults and three male adults were injured, while one female adult was rescued unhurt.

“The FRSC rescue team from RS5.33 Nteje Anambra State rushed the victim to Chira Hospital, Akwuzu, where two female adults were confirmed dead and their corpses deposited at the mortuary.
