The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has faulted reports of national grid collapse.

It said the power outage experienced in some parts of the country was due to the tripping of transmission lines.

A statement by TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndid Mbah, on Saturday, said the Osogbo-Ihovour line tripped at 1.41pm, followed by the Benin-Omotosho line, which resulted in a reduction of bulk power supply to the Lagos area.

TCN emphasized that the total generation on the grid was 4,335.63MW before the tripping and 2,573.23MW after, indicating that the grid did not collapse.

“The affected transmission lines impacted power supply to Egbin, Olorunsogo, Omotoso, Geregu, and Paras power plants, but TCN has restored power to all except the Benin-Omotoso 330kV line, which is still undergoing repairs,” the statement added

The TCN appealed to the public to rely on verified information, stressing the importance of accurate reporting to avoid misinformation.
