President Bola Tinubu has extended the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

The extension of Adeniyi’s tenure, which is due to expire on August 31, 2025, was made known in a statement issued to newsmen by the Presidency on Thursday.

Adeniyi will now remain in office until August 2026 to “consolidate ongoing reforms within the service.”

In a statement on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Tinubu said the extension was to enable Adeniyi to complete critical initiatives of the administration.
The reforms include the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service, implementation of the National Single Window Project, and execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.

“President Tinubu recognises Mr. Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and commitment to service.

“The President is confident that this extension will further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security,” the statement added.
