Tragic Christmas!!! 22 injured as bus rams into celebrants in Gombe
A commercial bus lost control and rammed into a Christmas procession in Gombe on Christmas Day, injuring 22 people, police have confirmed.
The Tumfure community celebrants were en route to the Government House and Gombe Emir’s Palace for homage when the accident occurred.
Buhari Abdullahi, the spokesperson for Gombe State police, stated that the injured were taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital and Specialist Hospital for treatment.
No fatalities were recorded.
The police have launched an investigation, with the Commissioner of Police tasking the Motor Traffic Department with a thorough probe.
Security forces cordoned off the area while authorities urged calm.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya expressed sympathy to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the victims, pledging to cover medical expenses.
Early morning fire ravages Onitsha shops
Meanwhile, in Anambra State, an early morning fire gutted several shops near the General Post Office on Ibokwu Street, Onitsha, destroying goods worth millions of naira.
Eyewitness Mrs Chidimma Ike reported the fire began in a shop and quickly spread, with residents and passersby working tirelessly to extinguish the flames as many shop owners were away for Christmas.
One affected shop owner, Mr Chinedu Nnamdi, shared that he initially mistook the smoke for waste burning before learning about the fire, which consumed his shop and others nearby.
