Trump enters 2024 US presidential race, sets up committee
Donald Trump entered the 2024 US presidential race on Tuesday.
The Republican ex-President of the United States of America, with his declaration, made official what he’s been teasing for months.
This is just as many Republicans are preparing to move away from their long-time standard bearer.
Trump thus set the stage for a bruising Republican nomination battle after a poor midterm election showing by his hand-picked candidates weakened his grip on the party.
Minutes before his appearance at an event announcing his candidacy, Trump’s campaign filed federal paperwork to declare that he’s running again, becoming the first major contender from either party to formally declare.
Trump immediately established a new campaign committee.
He said, “America’s comeback starts right now,” the 76-year-old former US President told hundreds of supporters gathered in an ornate American flag-draped ballroom at his palatial Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.
