Two people were killed and nine others, including three teenagers, were injured in a shooting at Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park during the United States Memorial Day celebration, the police confirmed on Tuesday.
The shooting occurred on Monday night during a gathering that drew a large number of adults to the park.
The police said all the injured victims are currently in stable condition, Reuters reports.
“A male and a female, both adults, were the deceased victims,” a police officer told reporters during a media briefing.
No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and authorities said the weapon used has not been recovered.
“We have not recovered any weapons at this time,” the officer stated.
“This is significant. It’s Memorial Day… we understand the significance of this event and we will make sure to provide an update,” the officer added.
Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States, observed on the last Monday of May to honour military personnel who died while serving in the armed forces.
