Tension has enveloped Osun State over attempts by alleged members of the All Progressives Congress to take over some local government secretariats in the state.

Residents, especially those who live around the council secretariats, have been thrown into panic as gunshots rent the air.

It was gathered that 8am on Monday, some persons invaded council area offices, including Osogbo and Olorunda.

Many pupils and students who were on their way to school ran back home as drivers deserted the affected areas.

Checks at Olorunda and Osogbo councils showed that the presence of security operatives prevented the invaders from accessing the government offices.

Two people were reportedly shot in Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State in the clash involving members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

It was gathered that some sacked chairmen of the APC stormed secretariats with the aim of taking control; however, some loyalists of the PDP and security agents fought and chase them away.

Our correspondent gathered that the same incident happened at government offices in Iragbiji, Odo-Otin, Ife Central LGAs in the state.

Videos on the internet revealed that suspected thugs loyal to the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party in the Ifelodun Local Government Area in Ikirun clashed at the council secretariat in the presence of security agents.

Recall that Governor Ademola Adeleke had on Sunday raised the alarm over an alleged attempt by his predecessor, Gboyega Oyetola, to forcefully return the sacked council chairmen into office.

Oyetola, while reacting, had asked the governor to obey an order of the Court of Appeal in Akure that reportedly reinstated the chairmen, who are members of the opposition All Progressives Congress in the state.

The APC executive resumed office early on Monday, celebrating their reinstatement and boasting about reclaiming control of the council.

However, as they left for the council premises, they were ambushed by PDP members, leading to gunfire.
