Underage girls lured into Lagos for employment, forced into prostitution
The Lagos State Police Command on Friday said its officers attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) rescued three teenagers from prostitution in the Itamaga, Ikorodu area of the state.
A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the girls were rescued on January 8, 2023 around 6am.
He explained further that a patrol team had noticed suspicious movements within the area.
He said after the girls were approached , the girls told the policemen that they were fleeing the custody of a mistress who brought them from Akwa Ibom State to Lagos under the guise of employment.
He added, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the victims, Saviour aged 14, Bright aged 13 and Deborah aged 12 (surnames withheld) upon reaching Lagos were locked by their mistress (still at large) in a hotel and starved for days as a means to force them into accepting prostitution. Contact has been established with the victims’ families.”
Hundeyin added that the Commander RRS, CSP Saheed Olayinka Egbeyemi, had, in line with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Abiodun Alabi, transferred the victims to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Command for further investigation.”
