One person was feared dead in the Alaba area of Lagos State, on Wednesday following a clash between traders at Alaba Market and Area Boys, THE EDITORIAL understands.
Reports say the traders are against the unnecessary demand of money by the area boys also known as Agberos in the area.
The confrontation, which reportedly began in the early hours of Wednesday, led to the closure of the market as traders refused to open.
The traders were said to be fed up with the constant harassment and intimidation meted on them by thugs.
In a viral video of the incident, a good number of traders could be seen brandishing machetes and planks with the intent to chase away the ‘area boys’ around the popular market.
In one of the photographs, a man, said to be a trader, was seen lying lifeless in what appeared to be a container shop.
Some persons injured in the fracas have been taken to the hospital for treatment
The spokesperson of the Lagos state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the police are working to restore order in the area.
