Warriors of Zimbabwe in Lagos for W’Cup qualifier against Super Eagles in Uyo

The Warriors of Zimbabwe are already in Lagos, Nigeria, ahead of their World Cup qualifier match against the Super Eagles at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo on Tuesday, March 25.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles crushed Rwanda’s Amavubi 2-0 on Friday, getting their World Cup qualification campaign back on track. In contrast, Zimbabwe came from behind to draw 2-2 with Benin Republic at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban.
The Super Eagles’ win over Rwanda propelled them to fourth place in the table with six points from five matches, surpassing Lesotho who lost to South Africa 2-0. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe remained bottom of the table with three points, putting their World Cup hopes in jeopardy.
Despite their struggles, Zimbabwe will draw motivation from their previous 1-1 draw against Nigeria at the Stade Huye, Butare, Rwanda.
The Super Eagles, however, will be confident of securing a win, especially with the return of key players who missed the 1-1 draw including skipper William Troost-Ekong, Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman as well as goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.
A victory over Zimbabwe would be crucial for the Super Eagles, potentially lifting them into the top three with four games remaining. This would keep their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup very much alive.
