WASSCE candidate killed by stray bullet in Ibadan

A bullet fired by a policeman has allegedly strayed, killing a teenage boy on his way to school in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
He was said to be on his way on Tuesday to sit for his final year paper when he was killed by the bullet fired by the police officer..
It was gathered that the incident occurred along Gbagi Market Road, where police officers were pursuing a vehicle suspected to be occupied by internet fraudsters, commonly referred to as “Yahoo Boys.”
A witness said a bullet fired by one of the officers missed its target and hit the student, who was on a motorcycle with his twin brother, on their way to exam hall.
The boy was reportedly rushed to Welfare Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
The boy’s remains wastaking by protesting traders and sympathizers to the Oyo State government Secretariat for justice.
The protest drew a large crowd, prompting security forces to be deployed at the Secretariat’s entrance to maintain order.
The protesters were later received by the Governor’s Executive Assistant on Security, Sunday Odukoya, who assured that the government would take up the matter.
The Oyo State Police Command’s spokesperson had yet comment on the incident.
