Nigerian Breweries Plc has called for entries for the 10th edition of the Maltina Teacher of the Year competition.
The flag-off ceremony was held on Thursday in Lagos. The 10th edition of the competition is themed ‘A Decade of Inspiring Excellence in Teaching’.
Grace Omo-lamai, the human resource director at Nigerian Breweries, said the competition serves as a means to laud teachers for their “tireless effort, dedication and unwavering commitment”.
“Today marks the beginning of another journey to appreciating, celebrating the tireless effort, dedication and unwavering commitment of our teachers,” she said.
“Maltina Teacher of the Year competition presents an opportunity to express our gratitude to teachers for the sacrifices they make, the extra hours they invest, guidance and mentorship they provide to ensure the success of our youth. Through this competition we aim to recognise the efforts of teachers in the countless ways they have shaped our future.”
Omo-lamai said the contest was approved by necessary authorities including the federal and state ministry of education.
“It is important to note that this year’s edition has also received endorsement from the federal ministry of education, state ministry of education, the Nigerian Union of Teachers, All Nigeria confederation of principals of secondary schools and the Teachers registration council of Nigeria,” she added.
Also speaking, Sade Morgan, the corporate affairs director, said the contest is opened to teachers in private and public secondary schools.
She also announced that the winner will be awarded N10 million cash prize alongside other prizes while the first and second runner up will be given N3 million and N2.5 million respectively.
To be eligible for the competition, you need to meet the following requirements:
Be a teacher in an accredited secondary school — private or public
Must not be over 55 years old
Must be fully registered with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
The application for the competition is now open and will run till July 19, 2024.
